Welcome to Marlborough Open Studios 2011
As in previous years we have a huge variety of artists opening their workspaces to the public over the weekends in July.
In this brochure you will find details of artists’ studios in Marlborough and surrounding villages. Painters, printmakers,
textile artists, sculptors, ceramicists, wood turners, glass artists, photographers, illustrators and a silversmith welcome
visitors to their working environments and galleries to view and discuss their work.
Last year was our most successful year ever both in terms of visitor numbers and artworks sold. This was a truly great
achievement given the well publicised downturn in the general Art market. It demonstrates both the range of gifted and
successful artists within our scheme and the substantial interest from the general public who appreciate the opportunity
to visit the studios and meet the creators of such wonderful work. Do take the time to visit our returning artists exhibiting
their new work as well as our 14 newcomers to the scheme. I am especially encouraged by the fact that we attract not
only well established commercial artists but also those new to the profession and I wish them all every success with their
exhibitions. As you will see from the brochure, work on show ranges from those who take a traditional creative approach
to more contemporary and experimental practitioners.
I would like to thank the MOS committee for their dedicated work in putting together this brochure and organising what I’m sure will be another successful Open studios. Thank you also to Wiltshire council for their generous financial contribution towards the costs of running this year’s event, thank you all. This brochure provides all the information you need about the participants, exhibitions and other activities taking place during July. Open studios and venues are in colour coded zones highlighted on the map in this brochure so that you can devise your own Art Trails. Opening times and weekends do vary, so please check venue details carefully. There is also an accompanying web site and our new Facebook page that gives further details about the artists as well as links to their own websites.
How to find the studios: Beside each artist’s name is a studio number which corresponds to its location on the map. Studio directions are given in each listing and outside each studio will be a sign/poster displaying the studio number. Wheelchair access is marked with a symbol and approximate distance to the studio. Please telephone the artist if you have any other questions. Thank you for picking up this brochure and I hope you enjoy all of the studio visits you make during MOS 2011.
